What fonts and font weights work best for print?
Font choice makes a bigger difference to print quality than most people expect, especially at small sticker sizes.
What works well
- Medium-to-bold weights hold their shape better at small sizes than thin/light weights
- Simple, clean typefaces reproduce more reliably than highly decorative or script fonts at small sizes
Outlining fonts
Always convert text to outlines (sometimes called "create outlines" or "expand") before exporting your final print file. This locks in the exact letterforms, so there's no risk of a font substitution changing your design if we don't have that exact font installed.
Quick summary
- Medium/bold weights print more reliably than thin ones at small sizes
- Keep decorative/script fonts for larger elements where detail can hold up
- Always outline your fonts before exporting
